MONTBLANC Great Characters Elvis Presley LTD 1935 Rollerball Pen 125508Montblanc Pens
Elvis Presley was a southern boy born in Tupelo, Mississippi in 1935. At the age of 13, Elvis Aaron Presley moved with his family to Memphis, Tennessee. Shortly thereafter, rock & roll history would be made. In 1956 Elvis began recording with world-renowned producer Sam Phillips at Sun Studio – they had a plan to break through previously untouched barriers between black and white music, and the results would forever influence pop music in America and around the world.
Montblanc’s Great Characters collection celebrates the most influential and impactful individuals of our short history here on Earth, a natural fit for Elvis. Not only did Elvis pioneer the Rockabilly style of music, a fusion of country music and rhythm & blues; his first single sold over 10 million records and he gave the first concert by a solo artist to be broadcast around the world, Aloha From Hawaii, and this exact concert is where much of Montblanc’s inspiration for this special edition pen was derived.
If you had been one of the 1.5 billion people across 40 countries that Elvis’ Aloha From Hawaii concert was broadcast to, one of the first things you probably would’ve noticed is the blue, red and gold eagle that was emblazoned in sparkling gems onto the back of his white outfit. A similar eagle is present on the cap of the pen, created with hand-filled lacquered windows that are carefully placed onto the cap of the pen. On the barrel of this pen you will find the inscription, “Elvis has left the building” – words that were made famous when they were used to inform the woeful audience that Elvis would not be doing any more encores tonight at this performance.
The nib of the pen reads “Jailhouse Rock”, to commemorate Elvis’ hit single. Most Elvis fans know that one of “The Kings” greatest passions was for luxury automobiles and powerful engines. For this reason the entire pen is meant to be shaped like a spark plug, and the holes made in the clip of the pen are to represent the powerful V8 engines that he adored so. The cone of the pen features the embossed writing “Ambition is a dream with a V8 engine”, perhaps one of Elvis’ most famous quotes about his success and his passion for automobiles.
This special edition Montblanc rollerball pen is one of the most elaborate efforts made towards The Great Characters collection, and is unlike any Montblanc pen ever before in both style and intent. The design beautifully captures Elvis and his passion for automobiles, and the unique colors and lacquered materials used make this pen impossible to overlook.
